Oud player Mohamed Abozekry has created a universe that owes as much to jazz as it does to the maqam, while Caroline Bugala, a former student of Didier Lockwood, moves with Mohamed Abozekry & Heejaz Extended – Ring Road (2015) After spending four years between the age of 11 and 15 studying Arabic traditional and classical music in the prestigious Arab Oud House in Cairo with two masters of the instrument – Hazem Shaheen (Egypt) and Naseer Shamma (Iraq) – the young graduate started teaching, experimenting Mohamed Abozekry, an oud (lute) master and his instrumental ensemble Karkadé, will explore classical Arabic music, Sufi music of northern Egypt, and music popular along the Nile River on Friday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Weis Center Atrium. The performance is free and tickets are not required. There will be a free pre-performance talk with the artists on Thursday, September 13 at 1 p.m
